Over the past week, many of our School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS) staff and students gathered with fellow contact lens researchers and clinicians from around the world at Stevenson, WA, USA for the 17th International Society for Contact Lens Research (ISCLR) Conference.
It was a great opportunity to explore and discover the multi-faceted nature of the dynamic contact lens community. It was a wonderful place to find a conclave of distinguished scientists, outstanding ophthalmologists and optometrists, and innovative industry professionals, all united in the vigorous pursuit of excellence in the field of contact lens research and related sciences.
School of Optometry and Vision Science, UNSW sent a large contingent of 11 academics, scientists and PhD students to this bi-annual conference, where they had several paper/poster presentations. Many of the SOVS staff were involved in moderating contact lens sessions.
In addition to scientific exchange, our researchers were highly enthusiastic in appreciating the scenic beauty of the Colombia river gorge and Bonneville Dam, WA, USA. During the networking day they were lucky to partake in activities such as hiking, cycling and even zip lining.
The bi-annual ISCLR conference is the biggest gathering of contact lens researchers. The next ISCLR Conference will be held in Asia in 2019, and the venue will be announced soon.
